on July 4th, 2003, when our A/C unit failed. He was able to repair it
within a couple of hours and was more than reasonable in price. He came
out personally, since all of his employees were off for the Fourth
holiday. We have since had David put a new heat and air unit in our
condo, including air handler, for an extremely reasonable price. We are
very pleased with the work he did and really pleased with the price.

07/16/2010 James Lusk - Very close by and very quick to respond. Have
had him three times for miscellaneous issues - capacitor blew on outside
unit, squirrel cage disintegrated on inside air handler, and outside
units needed leveling from ground settling. During one visit he noted
one bedroom had insufficient air flow - suggested a new "run" directly
from the air handler - made the connection, ran the pipe, cut the
hardwood floor, supplied the metal trim and an air deflector all for
$150. Good guy.

2007 Steve
and his sons David and Luke replaced our outside unit for the lower A/C
and the air handler for the upstairs unit. They were polite,
professional, prompt and excellent in their field. We highly recommend
them.
8/13/2006: On one of the hottest days of last week our Heat Pump Unit died. Steve
came in early the following morning, and within five minutes had fixed
the problem (capacitor) - and checked the whole unit. His attitude and
work were exemplary. I would recommend this tradesman to anyone.
6/15/2006: We received prompt, efficient service after hours for a
reasonable price. We are very pleased with their service.
5/5/2006: Smith and son have done some work on our AC systems over the years
(including when Steve worked for Pittman), and we have been totally
satisfied. I also recommended them to a new neighbor and they told me how
pleased they were with his work and reasonable charge. Smith Air Masters
are experts on all the Trane systems including the old variable speed
Trane 1500 condenser.
4/20/2006 . I ran across the most honest, reliable
HVAC folks about five years ago -- they REPAIR, not just replace --
unless it's needed. They even went so far as to retrofit a part to make
it work when our unit went down. They are 100% and as good as they come.

who will pick up or deliver individuals to the airports on weekends, but Keowee
Key resident, Kathy Schill, will do so anytime between Friday afternoon
and Sunday evening. Well-known and trusted at Keowee Key for her housekeeping
and personal assistance services, she drives the client in his or her car,
delivers him to the departure gate, and picks him up at the baggage exit upon
his return. She charges $30 per hour for her services. If the client wishes, she
will also grocery-shop, clean his home or wash his car for him in his absence. I
have used Ms. Schill for this purpose and found her to be a a skillful and
prudent driver

07/20/2010 We called Seneca Appliance for a
Wash Machine repair. Brad came out, said he fixed the machine and
charged us $184.00. A week later the same problem occurred. Brad
returned several days later and made another fix. No charge this time.
Two weeks later the same problem occurred. We called Seneca Appliance
and they indicted that Brad would call back immediately. It is now a
week later and we have not had the courtesy of a return phone call. The
original problem is still there. I called and they said they were really
busy. Too busy, I guess to return phone calls.

11/21/2007 This shop replaced the rear bumper on our Toyota Camry.
We called on Monday, brought the car in at 9:00 AM Tuesday, and it was ready and
perfect at noon on Wednesday. Cost seemed reasonable. The shop was clean,
quite large, and appeared well equipped to handle major collision work. Randall
Spearman looked up info on computer in minutes and was a pleasure to deal with.

son-in-law of KK residents. I was referred to him by several neighbors that had

boat cover makers, or dentists; Who doesn’t want to feel they were not taken

6/7/2007: Just
had a very pleasant experience with a contractor and wanted to share it.
We were interested in getting some new blinds for our downstairs as they
didn't work properly and contacted Blinds and Us, formerly Blinds Are Us.
The owner, Harold Mahaffey came out to measure them and instead of trying
to sell us a house full of blinds and new products, he very nicely
suggested that we look through all of our blinds and he would send out
his installer to repair those and any others that needed repair for a
truly nominal amount. He wasn't trying to sell us anything we didn't
need- quite a switch, ey? We will be redoing the lower level soon and
will DEFINITELY have him redo all the window treatments at that time.
Since our house has all wood blinds, he even made recommendations -
suggesting at times, to even keep most. It is refreshing to have an
honest salesperson/contractor/owner. He is very knowledgeable- so if you
need any new blinds or any window fashions, don't hesitate to call him.
His installer called us within 2 hours of his leaving to set up an
appointment!! Great service. His place is right next to Copper Grill in
Seneca.

08/05/2010 The Arnold Corporation, Cory, Gloria, and Dave Arnold, built
our home in Spinnaker Cove which we occupied in May 2008. The house was
finished a full month before originally promised with only a few minor
problems during construction. (It wouldn't be any fun if it went totally
smooth.) The Arnolds were very cooperative and extra fast in response to
these small problems, our numerous questions ant the three changes we
made to the design. We have had no problems since we moved in two years
ago. (We know, its hard to believe.) We still get together with the
Arnolds quite often socially and consider them good friends which is the
best measure of how satisfied we are. We have repeatedly recommended the

built and always came back to The Arnold Company. It was the best
decision we could have made! Dave made the whole home-building process
from design to finishing painless. His crews were top notch, the quality
was excellent, and even my husband (who is the PICKIEST perfectionist !)
pronounced the job first rate. Dave helped us stay well within our
budget without sacrificing quality, and we could not be more pleased
with our new home...it is better than we could have imagined! We are so
glad that we went with a solid, established and educated builder; the
custom experience is well worth the peace of mind and quality outcome!
Some others who built at the same time as us chose contractors who gave
them a lower price, but they ended up having allowances that weren't
sufficient and had to spend more unexpectedly anyway...or chose

They recently replaced approximately 730 square feet of my 12-year old
cedar decking with Fiberon composite decking. They carefully tore out
the old decking without damaging the newly painted cedar siding, hauled
it away, installed the new decking to my specifications (reduced joist
spans, drilled and countersunk 3” screws) and did a very thorough
clean-up job. Very competent and reliable and easy to work with. Not
only does the deck look great, the price was reasonable.

Michael just completed several home improvement projects for us that
included installing exterior doors, new deck with an under roof and
cement slab and new front stairs and landing to the driveway. This work

10/21/2007 Jonathan Andrews has just
successfully completed major projects for our home. The first was to
organize our garage by installing cabinets and a Gladiator System. His
creativity and suggestions for improvements were fabulous. Next, we
tackled the whole first floor of the house, stripping out carpet,
wallpaper removal, altering a wall and repairs. Again, his initiative
and creativity added so many extra touches we never considered. He has
a solution for any problem and executes the remedies with precision. He
is a man of many talents, which was perfect for this job, as we never
had to call in any outside people for small problems. John can fix
anything! He is a perfectionist in everything he does, and very neat
and clean on the job. He's extremely considerate, always upbeat, and
fulfills all his promises. He's a very hard worker, your satisfaction
being his primary goal. He accomplished this all by himself, with no
helpers, which is a guarantee it will be done right! He has done other
projects for us in the past, including removing our old deck and
installing a new Trex deck. He did it all without damage to any
landscaping and cleanup daily, never leaving debris in the yard. He did
have a helper on this job. John is capable of doing any job, large or
small, with great attention to the smallest details. He is a true
craftsman, a rare person these days! We heartily recommend John (who
just happens to live in KK!) to do any project, and feel confident you
will be pleased with the results. He certainly enhanced the beauty of
our home, and we feel like he's part of our family now!

My wife and I moved to
Keowee Key in August 3005 and bought an older home. It needed total
remodeling. We hired Jonathan Andrews and found him to be very good at
what he accomplished and at a fair price. We found no problems with his
work and we were well satisfied.
1/10/2007: The summer of 2006 we contracted with Jon
Andrews, AKA Mirror Image Design, to work on our recently purchased
house. We advised Jon what we wanted done in the bedroom, bath, closet,
office tile & deck. He advised his fee was $2000 per week, plus
materials, and he could do the project in six weeks. The project
encountered numerous delays due to insufficient or incorrect materials
ordered. During this time, we received invoices that we had already
paid, in addition to valid invoices, and the $2000 per week. Due to the
delays, expense, and to speed up the completion, we advised Jon not to
do some of the items that he had contracted to complete. After five
months, we advised Jon that we could not afford any additional expenses.
Instead of six weeks, it had taken five months, at triple the estimate,
and several projects were left incomplete - even ones that ones that Jon
was advised we wanted completed. Conclusion: Jon is a very likeable guy
and does very good work, however he is extremely disorganized. He should
do fine on smaller projects with a set fee.

my linoleum floor in April,2006. He and his helper did the installation
in four days. They did excellent work and cleaned up in a neat and timely
manner. I found his quality of work to be outstanding and his costs
reasonable. He seems to have many varied skills and lives in Keowee Key
which makes it very convenient for follow up”
7/10/2005:What a delight to have John work for us!! He
removed our old decks and installed new Trex decking, doing a superb
job!! He is efficient, neat and tidy (a perfectionist!), and always on
the job when he says he will be. He left our property spotless at the
end of the day's work, and was very attentive to protecting the shrubs
and plants as he did his job. He is upbeat and willing to do anything
you ask of him, always with his wonderful smile and good nature. It was
over 90 degrees some of the days he was working and he never let it
bother him or his production. I have already enlisted him for some
future projects and have every confidence he will do an excellent job!!
I heartily recommend him for any type of job you may have, inside or
out. He's a jewel!!

Cindy at Fine Designs. The first time we shopped all over the
Upstate area, and not only could not find what we wanted but the prices
were outrageous. We then went to Fine Designs, found exactly what
we wanted at an almost unbelievable price. The second time we
didn't even shop. It had to be ordered but arrived in a very
timely manner, and James Watt their installer is the best I have ever
seen. He did four large rooms in less than 3 days including moving
all of the furniture and disposing of the old carpet and pad. It
was truly a professional job.

07/01/2009 If you are not going to be onsite to supervise John, then you may
want to find another contractor. I hired John twice; the first time my
tenant said he was terrible but I didn't listen. I hired him again a
year later and was left "speechless" just like he promised. He paper
over soiled wallpaper and now the stain is bleeding through, did not
paint the garage door as agreed to, failed to replace wallboard, just
painted over, never replaced the wood on a window, used untreated
lumber in repairing a deck (and the rails are now buckling and rotting),
used deck paint on the outside of the house, failed to repair the
flashing by the roof, didn't remove the rust by the chimney, or the stain
on the vinyl in the storage room, etc. I'll be glad to show you "John's
work" so you can decide for yourself. John promised to come back but
never did. He failed to return the phone calls until I called from
another number, that's when I was able to reach him. He finally removed
the trash he left in my driveway but never returned to complete the job
that I paid him in full. I cannot recommend him.

they have re-roofed and repainted our home as well as replaced windows,

excellent carpenter and builder if anyone needs renovation done on their
home. I recently purchased a small home with my sister and Dan

5/05/2009 The Club catered a major party for us, 90 to 100 people
without a hitch. Brian worked with us extensively to develop the

We had a large portion of our concrete driveway jack
hammered up and re-laid due to subsidence and cracking. The entire job
was done by Calvin Gibson of Seneca. The results were excellent and the

rather than his own employees but Calvin supervised every minute of the
work.

performance with two "helmet" type covers, I found this product, which

household projects. 8/04/04 We were recently struck by lightning. The worst damage
was destruction of our irrigation system. I don't think it would be
working yet were it not for the efforts of Richard Hyder. He is a
retired person who has purchased some very sophisticated equipment to
locate underground wiring and breaks in wires. Mr. Hyder discovered a
30' length of wire completely destroyed, and he put in new wiring to
repair our system. He starts early, works hard, charges fairly, and has
equipment that I think is unique for repairing underground wiring,
especially irrigation systems. He lives in Seneca, on Lake Keowee.

was destruction of our irrigation system. I don't think it would be
working yet were it not for the efforts of Richard Hyder. He is a
retired person who has purchased some very sophisticated equipment to
locate underground wiring and breaks in wires. Mr. Hyder discovered a
30' length of wire completely destroyed, and he put in new wiring to
repair our system. He starts early, works hard, charges fairly, and has
equipment that I think is unique for repairing underground wiring,
especially irrigation systems. He lives in Seneca, on Lake Keowee.

5/03/09 Tony Francisco has recently
purchased the existing rock store across the street from Seneca movie
theatre, on Rt. 123. He was recommended to us by a neighbor who used him
for a retaining wall and fountain. We used him for a rock waterfall and

designed and sold us new trees and plants. He has several workmen. He

Russell Marcengill’s Ardium Painting Services this past week to repaint the
exterior of our home. I cannot imagine anyone using any other firm than his and
highly recommend that he be first on the list of painters you consider for your
painting needs. From his prompt response to my first call requesting an estimate
to the completed job was a textbook example of professionalism and a desire to
do the very best work possible. He offered suggestions , critiqued when
requested and is extremely friendly and easy to work with. His crew is hard
working , thorough , friendly and seem to almost never take a break of any
duration even in our current weather conditions. They went well beyond what I
had expected in preparing the house for painting with the amount of washing,
caulking and minor but important repair work on some woodpecker and squirrel
intrusion points. Cleanup was also A-l. Oh yes, I should mention the price was
very reasonable for the amount and quality of the work performed. It was a
pleasure working with Russell and his crew and if the current star rating
allowed for 6 or more I would gladly assign them more than 5. As a side note to
those who feel that Chick's Painting is topnotch (which it may well be) let me
say only that it took several calls from me to have them come to prepare an
estimate. I was asked almost no questions regarding our wishes , had to
volunteer almost everything and got the ! distinct impression that he was only
mildly interested in the job. I never received the promised call with an
estimate which more or less reinforced that impression

an interior decorator, I highly recommend Ardium Painting Services.. I
have used his services for interior as well as exterior painting with
great results. He has even painted my own home - both inside and out.

2007 We purchased a home in Keowee Key in January
2007. Russ was
recommended to us and we are very happy that we used his company. He gave
us a schedule and adhered to it. He told us he would return for follow up
on any problems we encountered, but told us to wait until other
contractors were done and the movers had left as there would probably be
some damages. It didn't bother him to repair problems created by others.
His price was fair and he is definitely a gentleman in his dealing. Owner
of Ardium Painting Co., with three assistants, painted the exterior of our
home completely to perfection in 6 days. Marcengill analysis, is hard
working, knowledgeable and concerned to fulfill his promises to his
customers. He and his men were meticulous with their work. His price was

the job. This preparaton included low pressure washing, caulking and sanding.

a timely fashion. He does not power wash, which I was happy to see. I've
had problems with windows losing their double-pane seal and getting
cloudy following a power wash. But he got the house exceptionally clean,
caulked everything, and double-coated the paint. The job site was neat
throughout. He charged a little more, but is well worth it.

04/30/009 I have had the privilege of having Ann Karwatka's loving care for my
black lab on numerous occasions. Ann is attentive, friendly, and particularly
caring with all she does for my 14-year-old dog, Missy. My girl can now stay at
home without the added stress and noise of a kennel, from boarding her while I
am away. Ann does more than required with each visit, including extra loving
attention and affection with Missy and various helpful tasks such as mail and
newspaper pick up each day. I highly recommend her services to anyone.

plumbing repairs. Greg is Ken's son, is a Master Plumber and has done
plumbing work for 18 years. I had a clogged sewer line and he came very
promptly and had the line unclogged in a few hours. He is a very personal
young man and tries very hard to please. I felt his charges were very
reasonable. For emergency service, I would suggest calling his shop around
8:00 to 8:30 A.M. and he will likely be able to correct your problem that

04/2007 Replaced the shingles on our roof. His crew of 3 completely stripped the
old shingles, put down new underlayment, installed the new shingles and
added ridge vents in 2 long days. His quote was the lowest of 3. He
called ahead to let me know when he or the crew would come to the house.
Two considerations when having shingles replaced are nails and the
location of the dumpster to receive the old materials from the roof. The
dumpster should be located immediately below the roof for easy loading.
Its location can affect garage access. Phil's crew used a magnetic
sweeper to pickup nails from the driveway. So far so good. Overall, I
was very pleased with Affordable Roofing.
4/4/2007: Recently
I had a skylight repaired by this company. The principal of the company
is Phillip Flaugher. I found him very responsive and certainly kept to
his estimate. The part that need repair was difficult to find but he was
persistent in his search and kept me informed of his progress in locating
the part. I would recommend the company for roofing work which you may
need, including skylight repair.

Ricky completely replaced our roof 3 years ago and
we were very pleased; but what really impressed us was that he came back 2 weeks
ago when we called and said another workman said that we had a leak in the roof.
(We didn't) Ricky called again and insisted on coming back during a rain storm
and took pictures. Then in the course of checking out the house, he found a
pipe leaking under the house and fixed it- including driving to town for parts.
All of the above was at no charge. He said it is part of his service. I cannot
recommend Ricky highly enough.

shingles on my house. Excellent job. He also can do almost anything needed in
home repair. Also a very nice young man as are his workers.
05/2007 Woody and his crew did an excellent
job doing a complete re-roofing of our home, incl. tearing off the old
roofing material right down to the plywood decking. They started within
their projected timeframe, worked neatly, and cleaned up completely. We
are very happy with the job AND they were the lowest of 3 estimates. If
you consider using them do NOT be put off by their appearance, these guys
are good and have been in this business for years.
1/10/05:
Did an excellent job on our re-roofing. Their cost was less than the
estimates we received from other roofers and they installed 'button
guards' to our gutters charging only for cost of materials.

Satellite They installed our satellite and did an
outstanding job. Since then, twice we arrived at Tall
Ships late Friday afternoon to find the system wasn’t working, either
because someone had damaged the satellite or because the signal had been
lost. Both times Anthony responded immediately to my
urgent messages. The first time he sent Jimmy to
replace the satellite [after 5:00 PM on Friday] and the second time he
called and walked me through the moves required to get the signal back [it
took about 3 minutes]. Very reasonable fees.

Gardening Services for small to large landscape project; from on-going, routine
maintenance to landscape projects. Kay worked with us this summer to re-do our
plantings in front of the house--everything from planning to installation;
including transplanting existing bushes, irrigation, landscape lighting,
installing a large urn style fountain and construction of a copper trellis for "vining"
clematis. Kay also maintains existing landscaping with a loving touch: weeding,
planting flowers, trimming, etc. She did quite a bit of trimming and brush
removal in the wooded area behind our house. Kay is knowledgeable, conscientious

5/06/2006: I have found a very reliable worker in Gabino Vivaldi.
He is Mexican and lives in Walhalla and works with his wife Ann and sometimes
children. He and his family and brother spread mulch in our yard for $300
a truckload. He also helped to plant my annual flowers at $12 hr.
Then he was able to repair some breaks in our sprayer irrigation system.
